GALLERY: The Bag Lady

Next week we’ll take a look at bedroom décor. Which colours are serene and relaxing and accessories to choose to add a wow factor.

What’s crazier than a driver putting on her mascara while driving? A driver putting on her mascara and trying to chat on her cellphone at the same time as she’s driving!

Honestly, I saw a woman driving last week while I was on my way to the office and she was holding the steering wheel with one hand, applying her mascara with the other and had her cellphone propped up between her chin and the steering wheel. In her favour, all I can say is, thank goodness she wasn’t driving more than 60km/h and it was a suburb road and not the highway.

With the early spring weather we are experiencing I think some of the plants are confused?

Is it time to flower or should we hold on? I’ve seen beautiful flowering blossoms and many other trees are in bud.

Will the beautiful weather carry on like this now or can we expect another cold spell before summer arrives? You all know my feelings on this. Bring on summer!

What’s new?

Just Creative Studio at Mall of the South is excited to introduce some new workshops. Dot painting is a fairly new craze and Just Creative will be running a few workshops on this during the next few weeks. The cost is R450 per person which will include all material on the day. Scrapbooking classes will also be commencing soon as well as quilting, patchwork and stitching. A fresh new look

Bathrooms tend to be the last room in many homes which get a new look but for me, my bathroom’s my sanctuary and I like to make it feel inviting and relaxing.

White is my choice for bathroom suites and fittings because you can use any other colour scheme with it. I chose pale grey for the walls with white tiles and pale grey tiles as a feature on part of one wall. The floor is tiled in grey slate.

If you have a neutral background it’s so easy to wow it up with accessories. More or less any colour matches with grey.

For towels choose white for a super fresh look. Pale lemon or peach will also look lovely, even a sage green or duck egg blue, navy too. For a truly feminine feel go for dusty pink.

If your bathroom is for him and her, you can choose the colour you like and for him go with a charcoal grey which will match with any other colour. To this I’d add a few green plants, non-flowering In fact, I’ve not had too much luck with plants in my bathroom, so I’ve cheated and bought really great quality faux plants in gorgeous pots.

Wooden accessories also look stunning with grey and white, so maybe add a few floating wooden shelves which you can use for candles or diffusers. For me, candles with a gorgeous fragrance are an absolute must in the bathroom. A flickering candle, while you relax in a bubble bath, is perfect for unwinding after a long day. Floating shelves can also be used to store extra rolled-up towels.

A fluffy bath mat, fragranced hand soap and hand cream and gorgeous bath products will give the finishing touches.

Colour pop

If you are more daring and want a really modern look for your bathroom you could choose a bright aqua blue wall with white tiles, still a white bathroom suite though. Choose towels in a vibrant colour. Orange could look great or saffron yellow. Go for black or charcoal grey accessories (candles, vase, hand soap dispenser).

That’s it for this week. Shop till you drop!
