The Bag Lady

Enjoy reading The Bag Lady while you have a cup of tea!

Colder weather hit us this past week, although how lucky we are still being able to enjoy mostly sunny bright days. I went along to the Johannesburg South Garden Club meeting last week and met Melanie Walker, who appears on the TV show Gardening 101 on the Home Channel and has written a new book, Garden Style. She mentioned how fortunate we are here in Joburg with our winter weather and I agree with her totally about spending more time outdoors than inside, where it’s chilly. What a fabulous woman, so interesting and she really knows her gardening and design. I don’t have Home Channel, but for those who do and enjoy gardening, watch her programme, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. However, I did buy her book, so I’ll be reading it soon. I’m sure I’ll get some great advice and even change a few things in my small garden.

New on the block

The Glen Shopping Centre has a new store, Value Co, which you’ll find on the rooftop close to Baby Boom. Here you’ll find items of jewellery, office and school, hi-tech, homeware, tools and DIY, home décor, automotive, cosmetics, party, toys and pets. The party section is awesome, well priced and there’s so much choice for parties for children. I guarantee you’ll find what you are looking for. Great prices too on gift bags. I’ll certainly be popping in from time to time.

Just opened at Glenvista Shopping Centre, Pick n Pay Clothing Store looks like it’s going to do well here. Situated on the bottom level (opposite the flower shop) when I popped in the first day it opened, there was lots of shoppers looking around and buying clothing. Always a great sign!

New spring stock coming in

Winter may not be over, but in the clothing industry they are a few months ahead with fashion buys and I saw Woolworths already has some “summer” clothing in-store for children. It always lifts my heart to see sleeveless dresses and T-shirts. Roll on spring.

My 10 favourite treats for July

L’occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream. It may cost a bit more but oh my, it’s lovely for my hands.

Garden & Home magazine – a relaxing hour reading one of my favourite magazines.

A mug of Nescafé Gold Salted Caramel Coffee – divine!

Lunch with friends at my favourite Turn n Tender Restaurant, Comaro View Shopping Centre, Bassonia. Superb food and fantastic service.

Homemade soup with hot, buttered toast.

Watching a rerun of the series Morse, which my friend lent to me. Superb acting from Morse and Lewis.

A new lipstick from Woolworths, Lips Hydro (Heather). So silky!

Lunch with my husband, Colin, at The Green Glenvista, sat in the sunshine with such a gorgeous view.

Cocktails at the Ebar at Thaba Eco Hotel. I always feel like I’m sat in a beautiful tree house with the stunning sunsets it offers.

And last but certainly not least – a pampering bath using Charlotte Rhys Bath Oil, simply bliss!

Bouquet of the Week

This goes to Philisiwe Moloi who works at MTN The Glen Shopping Centre (opposite Capitec Bank). Thank you for being a big help when I was doing an upgrade on my cellphone. I’m not the best with new technology and she was patient and professional, answering all my questions as best she could. I really appreciated your assistance, you are definitely an asset to MTN.

That’s it for this week. Shop till you drop!
