The Bag Lady

I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Easter weekend and with that, what’s next on our social calendar? Oh, yes, Mother’s Day.

I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Easter weekend and with that, what’s next on our social calendar? Oh, yes, Mother’s Day.

I always say mums are easier to buy for than any other member of the family, actually grannies too. I think women really appreciate even the tiniest treat or gesture and who doesn’t enjoy spoiling them!

Gift ideas for mums

As always, Woolworths has some gorgeous gifts, from body butters, lotions and foam bath to hand creams and hand soaps, some in sets, others available to purchase on their own. My favourite is the Belle Maison range. Choose from beautiful fragrances, Neroli, Geranium and Juniper.

With winter on our doorstep, treat her to a pair of fluffy PJs, slippers or a cosy dressing gown. Feeling flush, buy her all three and put together with tissue paper in a pretty gift bag. She’ll love you forever. Scarves, gloves, thermal underwear and lingerie are also good ideas. Can’t decide? You can always get her a gift voucher.

Clicks and Dis-Chem also have some great gift ideas, mostly in the body range or perfumes.

For book lovers

Visit Bargain Books at The Glen or Mall of the South, they really do have some great reads at fab prices, or go to Exclusive Books if there’s a particular new book you know she’ll enjoy. Otherwise, buy her a book voucher.

For mums who enjoy gardening

A book on gardening is always nice, especially if you know she enjoys her pots, herbs or small garden ideas. Otherwise, pay a visit to a local garden nursery and buy her plants, a shrub or tree.

Likewise, a beautiful bouquet of flowers will always be well received. Woolworths do some stunning bouquets, not too badly priced either and they do last. Or visit the flower market at Multi Flora/Grandiflora.

Fragranced candles

With the worry of more load-shedding to come, this may be the perfect gift. Yankee Candles (Mall of the South) have the most beautifully fragranced candles, as do Poetry, also at Mall of the South. Mum will be sure to enjoy a relaxing bath with fragranced foam bath, a candle and a glass of wine. Pure bliss!

Sweet tooth?

Chocolates or a tin of fancy biscuits. The choice is endless and you can always pair them with a bottle of her favourite wine.

If you are buying a book, shop or mall gift voucher, it can look a bit boring given on its own, so I like to do it up a little.

Buy a small gift which can be wrapped in tissue paper, a gift bag and add the gift voucher to the bag. If you find gift bags a bit expensive, use a sheet of wrapping paper and tie with a ribbon. Cut a flower from your garden and attach to the gift. Beautiful!

Small and inexpensive gifts

A bar of fragrant soap, bar of chocolate, pen and notebook, pair of woolly socks, pair of gloves, nail polish, hand cream, her fave magazine or a gorgeous fluffy hand towel are all small and inexpensive gifts. Shop around and see what you can find.

That’s it for this week. Shop till you drop!
