The Bag Lady

Last week’s column featured lots of great gift ideas for men, this week I’m highlighting some beautiful gifts for women.

Two weeks to Christmas … and counting (well actually two weeks and four days)!

Last week’s column featured lots of great gift ideas for men, this week I’m highlighting some beautiful gifts for women.

Fragrance first

I don’t think there are many women who don’t love perfume. Whether it’s an exotic fragrance, floral, musky or fresh, you’ll find all their favourites at Edgars, Woolworths, Clicks and Dis-Chem. Keep a look out for gift boxes where you may get a perfume and a body lotion for the normal price of a perfume. As well as getting a good bargain, boxed gifts are beautifully packaged and most stores will gift wrap them for you. Come on guys, this gift couldn’t be simpler to buy!

Luxury body butters/ creams and bath products

Once again Woolworths’ beautifully packaged pamper sets are sure to be a hit as well as their stocking fillers. Dis-Chem and Clicks also sell gorgeous packaged pamper sets, and some for under R150. And you still can’t beat Clicks’ Oh So Heavenly ranges and just in time for the festive season, Oh So Heavenly All that Glitters range, stunning and extremely well priced! An added bonus they have the purple sticker which means buy any three gifts and get the cheapest one free. Now that’s a bargain!

Scented candles, diffusers and room sprays

I’m an absolute fan of fragranced candles and my favourites are the Yankee Candles. There’s nothing more luxurious than running a bubble bath, pouring a glass of wine and lighting your Yankee Candle! This year’s festive range includes All is Bright, Glittering Star, Winter Wonder and Season of Peace. Available from JJ Cale Tobacconists Mall of the South. Spar Meyersdal also stocks some of the Yankee Candle range. Diffusers and room sprays are also perfect for the bathroom and bedroom. @Home Living has some gorgeous ones and MRP Home too.

Smart kitchen ware

Clicks has the Kambrook Aspire range in copper, choose from the Jug Kettle, two slice toaster or dome kettle, all under R500 each. Also look at @Home Living Space and MRP, which has two new revamped stores, one in Alberton City and one in Mall of the South. One of my favourite stores for kitchenware has to be Le Creuset (Mall of the South). A tad pricey but most definitely worth it. Most of their products have a lifetime guarantee.

Up the game – jewellery

If the woman in your life loves everything that sparkles, take a peek at NWJ Fine Jewellery and Sterns (Alberton City and The Glen), while Mall of the South has Browns The Diamond Store and Swarovski. If you would like to have a piece of jewellery designed and made, there’s no better shop locally for exquisite jewellery at impressive prices, than Golconda Jewellers in Comaro View Shopping Centre, Bassonia (Phone 083 277 7924).

Readers’ choice

If you are like me you’ll love to receive a good book to enjoy over the Christmas holidays. Exclusive Books (Mall of the South) has some great new reads in-store and at Bargain Books (Mall of the South and The Glen) you may find what you are looking for. One of my favourite authors is Joanna Trollope. Her latest, An Unsuitable Match is an uplifting story of love, family and second chances. This is going on my list!

Run out of time – gift vouchers

If all else fails and you really are stuck, buy a gift voucher. Available from most clothing stores, in fact most stores have gift vouchers and then she can choose what she loves best.

Christmas décor

The Christmas table won’t be quite the same without a gorgeous centrepiece. Just Creative Studio at Mall of the South made up one for me for an early festive family lunch last weekend. It was stunning and all our guests commented on how beautiful it looked. All sizes available to order. Phone Marianne on 082 556 1852 for more information.

Colco Café and Pizzeria

Owned by Natasha Vermaak and Vaughn McMullen, Colco Café and Pizzeria is located in Rietvlei Zoo Farm and they have recently relaunched their new menu, just in time for the festive season! “We’ve upgraded the interior giving it a more Tuscan feel and our menu is family orientated with pizzas, pastas, tramezzinos, salads and more to tantalise your taste buds. We offer a 15 per cent discount for pensioners (pensioner meal only) on a Wednesday,” they said. Book here for kiddies birthdays and adult birthdays, baby showers and kitchen teas. For more information phone Natasha on 083 771 8628 or email: calocafe@zamail.co.za

That’s it for this week. Shop till you drop!
