RECIPE: Gluhwein german mulled wine

With some chilly weather expected, why not make a jug of Gluhwein to enjoy with family and friends.

Ingredients

1 litre bottle dry red wine

300ml water

2 tablespoons sugar

1 cinnamon stick, broken into two

1 bay leaf

1 lemon struck with a few cloves

Method

Pour the wine and water into a large saucepan, add the sugar and heat gently until the sugar dissolves. Float the remaining ingredients on top of Gluhwein and heat gently for five to ten minutes. Do not allow to boil. Taste for sweetness, adding more sugar as necessary, then strain and serve hot I heatproof glasses. Fills eight to 10 glasses.
