The Bag Lady

Visit the Green.glenvista pub, it really is the perfect place to wind down with family and friends.

Hope you all enjoyed a peaceful Christmas and a magical new year. Mine was lovely, spent with family, seeing friends and remaining local, due to being on standby.

There’s something great about local though, especially when half of Gauteng had gone to the coast or the bush. The roads were quiet, the shops weren’t too busy and there was an air of peace and tranquillity in the South. Long may it reign!

Local is lekker

We visited the Green.glenvista pub (right next to Glenvista Country Club, same car park) a couple of times and enjoyed their delicious pizzas, the best in town, oh and of course a drink or two. It’s got a great vibe, the staff are friendly and offer good service, the views are beautiful, there are different craft beers to choose from as well craft spirits and wine, and soon cocktails will be back on the menu. It really is the perfect place to wind down with family and friends. Pop in and see what you think. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

Back to the grindstone

Thankfully, I love my job, so coming back wasn’t a problem. On my second day back I had the privilege of seeing a three-day-old baby girl who was born on New Year’s Day. New hope for the future, and then I went to Marist Brothers Linmeyer and saw some of the 2017 matriculants who had come to get their results. Happy and excited, it gave me even more hope for the future. How many jobs offer this, and all within the space of an hour!

Domestic bliss

If you are fortunate enough to have a domestic worker, I’m sure you are counting the days until she returns to work. For her though, she’ll be coming back to a messy home, loads of washing and piles of ironing. I only have my domestic, Joyce, once a month and probably her most important chore for me is the ironing. I can do it and often do, but I tend to save those difficult-to-iron clothes for her.

And this is what brings me back to my story – those beautiful frilly sleeves and necklines which are huge, pardon the pun, fashion items now! I bought a gorgeous cotton dress to wear on Christmas Day with a beautiful frilly neckline and my goodness, what a nightmare it was to iron. And yes, it’s now in the ‘for Joyce to iron’ pile. I feel really sorry for your domestics if you also bought dresses and tops with frills!

Good service, good manners and professionalism

This year I’m going to be ruthless when I don’t get the service I should in shops. I’m not going to tolerate bad manners and shop assistants who don’t know how to do their jobs. Only three days into the new year and I had to voice my disgruntlement at a well-known store. I’ll be kind this time and not report the said staff members, who were totally unprofessional and rude, to the store’s head office.

If you work in a shop and are dealing with customers, you should at least be friendly and helpful. It’s not too much to ask for, surely? Remember the high unemployment rate, there’ll be plenty of others to step into your shoes, so look out, I’ll be out and about.

That’s it for this week, shop till you drop, if you still have any money left!
