The Bag Lady

This year, to me, there doesn’t seem as much as a Christmas vibe as previous years, even though the shopping malls have been decked out with Christmas décor. I’m hoping I begin to feel jolly soon!

Don’t you agree, life is all about experiences, whether good or bad, they are something we all “experience”! Pardon the pun. I was chatting to a friend of mine the other day, Dimitri Papadakis, co-owner of Turn n Tender, Comaro View, Bassonia, and we were discussing how times have changed with the economy and how often people eat out. For me, going out to eat is not just about the food, it’s a whole experience. Feeling spoilt, the restaurant vibe, the service, the food and the buzz. If I can enjoy the whole “package” so to speak, I’ll pay and not worry about the expense.

It’s the same when I go to my hairdresser, Tracy Sham, owner of Hair on Hythe in The Broads, Mulbarton. It’s not just about a tint and cut or a cut and a blow dry, it’s the whole package I receive. From arriving I feel so welcome and know the staff on first name terms and they know me. They make me feel special. Tracy and Clint, the hair stylists, are fantastic and whichever lady washes my hair, also gives the most amazing head massage. The service you receive will definitely outweigh the cost.

Cheaper is not always best, sometimes paying a little extra and getting superb service is worth so much more.

Seven weeks … and counting!

This year, to me, there doesn’t seem as much as a Christmas vibe as previous years, even though the shopping malls have been decked out with Christmas décor. I’m hoping I begin to feel jolly soon!

Woolies has most of its festive food in stock, cakes, biscuits, chocolates and of course, Christmas crackers and I’m sure gifts will be on the shelves by next week. Checkers and Pick n Pay likewise are looking festive and Clicks has some beautiful and reasonably priced gifts.

Preparing for Christmas

As I’ve said in past years, begin to make lists now of who you would like to buy gifts for and with an amount you’d like to spend. This will give you a guideline when you are out shopping. Really try to keep within your price range.

Buy your Christmas gift wrap or bags, gift tags, ribbons and sticky tape now, also Christmas themed serviettes if you are planning on hosting family and friends over the festive season.

Stock up on tin foil, cling film, kitchen roll (check out the pamphlets in our newspaper for weekly specials) and tinned and non-perishable goods.

Doing all of this now will save you time in a few weeks when the “heat is on” and “time is running out”.

Until next week, shop till you drop!
