The Bag Lady

Father's Day on June 19. What can you buy to show your love for him? Lots of ideas here!

FATHER’S Day is around the corner and I’m sure many of you are thinking about what gift you can buy for your dad.

The type of dad you have and what his likes are, will of course limit the gift choice. Here are a few ideas.

For the man who enjoys entertaining: Ice bucket and tongs, bottle opener, shot glasses, drink mats, cocktail shaker and recipe book for cocktails. In fact any glasses, whisky, wine or beer. Glasses have a habit of breaking so new ones are always welcome. Cookery book, specific if you know what food he enjoys cooking, frying pan, or a set of sharp kitchen knives.

Gardener: Thick gardening gloves for trimming thorny bushes, spade, trowel, fork, plants, an indigenous tree, packets of seeds and how about a book on gardening in SA, or if he’s just recently moved into a complex or a cluster, a book on small gardens.

Socialiser: Tickets to a movie or the theatre, or dancing lessons.

Reader: If you know a book he wants, buy it; a book voucher, bookmark, or magazine subscription.

Man about town: Leather wallet, belt, tie, aftershave, facial products, shirt, and cufflinks.

Sportsman: Tickets to a rugby game, golf clubs (or club, I know how expensive they are), and book on sport (his favourite).

Sweet tooth: Chocolates, fancy biscuits, or a box or tin of sweets or Turkish delight.

Wine/drinks lover: Red or white wine. There are many good, quite inexpensive bottles around at the moment. Port or sherry (warming when it’s cold), whisky (always a winner), or a good bottle of brandy.

So, there you have it. Lots of ideas and some that won’t break the bank.

That’s it for this week. Shop till you drop!
