The Bag Lady

What;s The Bag Lady been up to this week? She popped into the new Woolworths food store at Bassonia, and loved it!

Can you believe it’s May? Nearly half way through the year again! We’ve just enjoyed another public holiday but I’m afraid there are none now until June 16, Youth Day. None in July and August has one, Women’s Day on August 9. So if you still have leave left and if you’re clever, you can make another couple of lovely long weekends. They really do make a difference and are like short holidays.

Of course I had to pop into the newly opened Woolworths food store at Comaro View Shopping Centre, Bassonia. The well planned spacious store makes shopping a treat and I loved the fresh flower and plant selection. There’s also a small area selling kitchen and décor items as well as glasses and coffee mugs.

Get metallic

I love the new metallic look at Woolworths, with copper and bronze, which will bring warmth to a winter home. If you are a great entertainer, a must have is the footed drinks cooler (R1 150) and metal bowls for holding fresh fruit and will look great on the kitchen counter. Perfect for dad for Father’s Day; buy him a copper hip flask and mug.

New products

Have you tasted Four Cousins Marula Flavoured Cream Liqueur and Strawberry Flavoured Cream Liqueur? Delicious!

The Marula Flavoured Cream Liqueur originates from the fruit of the indigenous African marula tree. Blended to perfection using the finest natural ingredients, this rich and creamy liqueur will have you asking for more and the Strawberry Flavoured Cream Liqueur tastes of strawberries and cream. Enjoy on their own or poured over ice cream.

Look out for Woolworths’ new wines. They are launching 11 new wines with a focus on red wines, Fairview Roaming Goat from R69.95, Graham Beck Shiraz from R69.95 and Hartenberg Reserve Collection Merlot from R129.95.

Fashion must haves

Soft suede is “in” so why don’t you treat yourself to a tan coloured jacket, boots, shoes or a handbag. You’ll need nothing more than a tailored pair of denims and a silky cream blouse, gorgeous. Pinafore dresses are also making a comeback which are great to team up with a blouse or polo neck jersey.

Bouquets of the Week

Lynn Holmes says she has recently had some great service from unlikely places and she thought they deserved bouquets.

“I had to renew my driver’s licence as the five years was nearly up last week, and have been putting it off as I was dreading hours of queuing. To my surprise I was in and out in less than hour, even with a very understaffed Alberton licence department office. A very polite, efficient man called Romeo assisted me. My husband reported similar efficiency a few weeks before this so well done to them.

“Last Monday my toilet started overflowing and we called my brother-in-law who owns Bracken Plumbing. He told us he no longer cleans sewers, but put me in touch with Joe Bloggs Plumbers in Brackendowns who came within an hour and sorted out the problem. I am horrified at what people are throwing into the sewers these days. Joe Bloggs Plumbers were quick, efficient, friendly, and cleaned up afterwards. They are highly recommended on 011 868 1443 and gave me a 14 day guarantee on work done. I later found out that Outsurance, through which I have my household insurance, offer a free emergency plumbing call out which I did not know I had. When I contacted them, they said I could send the bill to them from Joe Bloggs and this was paid back to me within 24 hours. Another pleasant surprise!

“Then, two days later, my 90-year-old father, Paul’s fridge packed up, and I was recommended to call Alberton Refrigeration. The fridge is very old so I did not hold out much hope. However, at the exact time I had arranged, Jan and Sipho arrived at our home, and within 20 minutes had replaced the thermostat and the fridge was sorted and running again. Contact Alberton Refrigeration on 011 907 3631.

“In between all my woes, my faith in my local community continues to be upheld. I love my city and there are still so many people out there who really care and do their jobs well. Let’s not forget that good things are still happening and stay positive!”

That’s it for this week. Shop till you drop!
