The Bag Lady

This week I had the pleasure of attending the opening of The Eye Wear Boutique 4 Kids in Glenvista, across the road from Glenvista Shopping Centre and the petrol station.

Most of this week I’ve spent photographing piles of rotting rubbish, so my week has been nauseating to say the least!

Apart from it being a pathetic situation, my heart broke when I was at the Mondeor Garden Refuse site and, only after looking twice, I realised part of the rubbish dump was moving. A man clothed in blanket was picking among all the rubbish, no doubt for leftover food or things he can wear or use. Once again it made me realise how fortunate me and my family are. South Africa will be seeing a lot more of this kind of poverty soon, as food prices go through the roof, the petrol price rockets and in my opinion the government continues to make infuriating and bad decisions. I think we are going to be in for a very bumpy ride these next few years.

All eyes on us

This week I had the pleasure of attending the opening of The Eyewear Boutique 4 Kids in Glenvista, across the road from Glenvista Shopping Centre and the petrol station.

Owned by Werner Fourie, the new store is surely going to be an absolute hit with moms and daughters (sons too, I’m sure). Apart from the extraordinary and classy décor, you will be wowed with the gorgeous and trendy eyewear available for younger children and teens. You know yourself you don’t always feel comfortable wearing specs but for a child it’s often worse as they get teased at school. Well, that’s about to stop!

Brand-name glasses for children at really great prices adorn the store and I can promise you, your child will see something she or he will totally love.

Werner has come up with a fabulous concept which will make visiting his store fun and groovy, not to mention the décor, which will make younger children feel right at home. Moms too will adore the store and can enjoy a cup of coffee while their child has their eyes tested.

With this ‘new look’ eyewear boutique, it’s going to make wearing glasses fashionable and trendy and I can honestly see, pardon the pun, some kiddies hoping there may be a slight problem with their eyes, just so a pair of glasses from here will be leaving with them! And that’s not all – you’ll get free insurance on kiddies’ glasses for two years and the glasses will have impact resistant lenses! For more information, phone 011 682 3186

Bouquets of the Week

We can’t get away from rubbish problems at the moment but here are two bouquets for Kleen Bin. From Antoinette Pretorius, “As well as coming to clean my bin, which unfortunately hadn’t been emptied due to the Pikitup strike, Kleen Bin removed the rubbish to take away for me and then cleaned my bin! How exceptional is this? Well done, I congratulate you and thank you so much.”

“I would like to extend a huge thank you to Kleen Bin for going beyond their call of duty. We have been a customer of theirs since their inception and have only received excellent service from them.

I was at my wits end last week with two overflowing, stinky dustbins when employees of Kleen Bin rang our doorbell and emptied, washed and sanitised both our bins. Today, once again, they serviced all their customers in our street, ringing our bells, emptying our bins and washing and sanitising them. In this day and age, sadly, one notices good service which unfortunately is seldom the norm. Their employees, Philip and Blessing take pride in their jobs and deserve a mention. Thank you, thank you, thank you Kleen Bin. May your business flourish and grow from strength to strength,” said Marta Nel.

*From a happy Alberton resident. A big bouquet to Willemien at the Post Office in Second Avenue shopping centre who goes the extra mile, with a smile. Also to Elizabeth at CNA Alberton City, who is apparently extremely helpful and friendly. Well done, ladies and keep up the good work – it’s definitely not going unnoticed.

That’s it for this week. If you can still afford it – Shop till you drop!
