The Bag Lady

What's The Bag Lady been up to this past week?

FOOD prices are rapidly going up, not by cents but Rands and I’m really trying to buy specials every week. If you take a bit of time and go through the pamphlets (yes, in the newspaper), you’ll be able to see what Pick n Pay, Checkers, Checkers Hyper, Makro, DisChem, etc, all have as their weekly specials. Woolworths also has some great specials, well worth buying and often cheaper than other stores. Not to forget Spar, they also have fantastic specials.

Great price, great taste

I’d kind of given up on the idea of eating avocados for a while and decided there was no way I was paying R60 for four. Then I saw a guy selling Natal avos on the street corner and bought a bag of six for R40. They are quite big and absolutely delicious. I’ll be looking out for more of these.

Anything for a peaceful sleep

I see Peaceful Sleep has a new room spray which states a two second spray will keep your room mozzie free for eight hours. Now that’s good news, pity they don’t make a spray for snoring partners!

In the pink

For one of the those occasions when you feel a little bubbly, open a bottle of Lightly Sparkling Pinot Noir Rosé from Robertson Winery. Crisp and perfect to refresh and delight the senses on a hot summer’s day. There won’t be too many of those left now, so treat yourself this weekend.

Bouquet of the Week

Mrs Jones gives a huge bouquet to Hester of Hair by Hester, who is an extraordinary person and generous, kind, friendly, humble, loving and most of all considerate to the people in our community. As well as being a super hairdresser, Hester always goes out of her way to assist everyone. Through no fault of her own, Hester has moved and is now at 46 Anson Street, Robertsham. The same street she was in previously. I am hoping all her original clients will be able to find her, and perhaps also new clients, who find it difficult to afford the high salon prices, but still need to have their hair done. Phone Hester on 083 683 4271.

Lemon of the Week

To all shops which overcharge as you go through the tills. Last week at Checkers I was overcharged R20, an extra R10 on each packet of frozen chips. When I checked my slip I informed the cashier I’d been overcharged, the chips were normally R34.99 but on special were R24.99. She shuffled off to check the ‘special’ notice on the freezer and came back but still didn’t believe the price. Then off she went to find a pamphlet to see if the cheaper price was correct. All of this while I stood waiting to leave the shop! Eventually she admitted the mistake and I had to fill out a form with my contact details. No, shopping isn’t fun!

That’s it for this week. Shop till you drop!
