I’ve been scouting the shops for prices of Christmas cakes and pudding as well as Christmas crackers. I say Christmas crackers, as one year I asked someone to bring crackers for a Christmas lunch and guess what they brought…. yes, crackers but savoury crackers!! You can imagine how disappointed the children were. Since then I’ve always been very explicit when asking for something.

If you enjoy delicious chocolates, biscuits and nuts, pop in at Dischem and take a look. They have a whole Cadbury’s range and I can tell you they are really yummy.

Focus on Local
Grants Dairy, owned by Dalene and Wesley Grant, has been open for 16years but only eight on this property at 114 Jacoba Street, just off Bloutulp and Kritzinger. The dairy mainly produces goats milk and cheese and they have goats on the ‘farm’. They also sell normal cheeses made from pasteurised milk they have delivered. They sell drinking yoghurts and plain and fruit yoghurt as well as fresh milk at only R6.70 a litre (if you bring your own container), R6.90 for a sachet. They stock a selection of fresh fruit juices as well as homemade ginger beer, rusks and preserves. A farmyard with exotic ducks, turkeys, guinea pigs and ducks will be great for the children to see.
Grants dairy also has a coffee shop ‘Plaasstoep’ where you can enjoy delicious farm breakfasts, toasted breads, light meals and cakes. They also have a children’s menu which is very reasonable.
If you want somewhere different to have your child’s birthday party, they also cater for this too. Imagine a kiddies party down on the farm with tractor rides!
