The Bag Lady

What's The Bag Lady been up to this week? Read and find out!

As we wait patiently for the summer rains to start, I’ve tried to water my garden every few days and plant pots every day. The pots soon become so dry and needs lots of water. Isn’t it a lovely time of the year though, all the blossom trees flowering and the beautiful Syringa trees with their heavy scent. My Jasmine tree is full of buds and the pink bottle brush is beginning to flower.

Spooky times
Halloween is on Friday October 31 and I see a few shops are carrying spooky costumes and tasty treats. Woolworths has a good selection of Trick or Treat sweets and Birthdays The Glen is selling lots of Halloween items from devil horns to masks, trick and treat bowls, witches hats and spooky costumes. Also pop in to The Toy Factory Shop (top floor across from Bargain Books) for really inexpensive Halloween children’s dress-up costumes.

Consol products
Boardmans has a super Consol range of inexpensive glass ware. Have a look at their jars which are great for cereals and museli, especially the extra large jar (R49.95) and large jar (R39.95). Other sizes are medium (R24.95) and small (R19.40).
Buy a Consol Milk Bottle for R49.95 and beautiful dessert glass bowls at R24.95 each.

Splashing out

As the end of year draw closer now is the time to buy your holiday attire. This past week I’ve been checking out swimwear and there are some gorgeous cozzies around, lots of one piece’s too. Bikinis are beautiful but for the more mature woman a one piece looks stunning. Gorgeous colours abound and you can choose from azure blue, mint green, pink, peach, coral, lemon and of course black and white.

All the main stores, Edgars, Foschini, Truworths and Woolworths have one piece swimsuits and most start at about R200.

To go with your swimsuit buy a beautiful wrap, flip flops and a sun hat. Don’t wait too long to buy though, otherwise all the popular sizes will be sold out.

Focus on Local

A while back I told you about Bunny’s Health Shop in Main Street Rosettenville. Not too long after I featured another health shop, Nu Leaf in Glenanda and many readers thought Bunny’s had closed down. Not so, they are still well and truly open and waiting for your custom. Due to Premilla Bhana, the shop owner being severely ill, she was absent for a short period and customers thought the shop had closed down.

Premilla has passed the Solgar training course and is accredited by the Solgar Vitamin and Mineral company. She has also attended the Danny Wells training course in UK, and she has successfully completed the Bach Flower and Aromatherapy course.

Premilla and Mahendra Bhana would like to thank their loyal customers for the support they have received during these trying times.

Bunny’s has been serving the South for over 30 years and will continue to do so and is situated at 80 Main Street, Rosettenville. Ample parking. Phone 011 435 3558.

Bouquet of the week

Colleen Bouw says, “As I try to do every week, I went to The Carwash at Rietvlei to have my car cleaned. Leaving my keys and car with the manager, I headed off to the nearby coffee shop. When it came time for me to pay for my coffee, I went cold.  My wallet, containing R500, was not in my bag. I quickly phoned home, it wasn’t there. The only place it could be was in the car. By this time I’d left my car at the carwash for nearly 45 minutes. A lady overheard my conversation and came over. It turned out she was the owner of The Carwash and called the manager and one of the staff came running over to the coffee shop with my wallet. Everything was still inside. Unbelievable! I can truly say that the staff and management of The Carwash are very honest and do a great job. Thank you!”

That’s it for this week. Enjoy yourselves and shop till you drop!
