The Bag Lady

Spring is definitely on its way but it could be a few weeks away yet.

We had a few very warm days, then an icy cold front came up from the Cape. Let’s see what the next week brings.

Floral rules

Whatever the weather the shops are full to bursting with new spring lines and floral is definitely making a comeback. Whether it’s clothing, home accessories or bedding, floral is in!

There are also lots of gorgeous colours; lemon, tangerine, turquoise, pink, lime as well as all- time favourites, navy, red, white and black. You’ll be in the height of fashion with any colour this season.

Home makeover

We all like our homes to look fresh at the beginning of Spring but let’s be honest, things are expensive. If you feel like a change and can’t afford bigger items such as a new lounge suite, dining table and chairs, or a change for your bathroom and kitchen, start small. Buy a few snazzy cushions or throws for your suite and see the difference. Have your dining chairs recovered in one of the bright colours or a floral design.

Buy new curtains in a daring colour, especially if your lounge suite is beige or very plain, it’ll give your lounge the wow factor. Bedrooms are easy, although duvet cover sets can be pricey, but Mr price Home has some lovely ones at very good prices. Or go for a complete white duvet set and add a couple of colourful cushions to the bed. In the bathroom you could go for new towels, bright or white, add a pot plant or two. Mr Price Home also has some really super faux succulents that will look great. In the kitchen spice it up with new tea towels in bright colours, also a faux herb pot or two will cheer up the look.

SUCCULENTS (Medium)

A lamp can make all the difference to a room

I love lamp light, especially in the lounge and it’s a must for the bedroom. There are some gorgeous ones about. If you can’t afford a whole new lamp just buy a new lamp shade.

So, you see, you can afford to spoil yourself and it won’t break the bank.

Sew simple

Helen Malin saw the article about the lady looking for a dressmaker. “I am a pensioner and absolutely love sewing, have sewn for my family for many years and I even made my daughter in law’s wedding dress, etc. (which I must say turned out very well). I live in Brackendowns and if Karen is interested she can always e-mail me: helenmalin@telkomsa.net

A little praise

From Carol: “Thank you for a wonderful column! It’s always the first thing I read. For all your effort in making it easier for us with bargains and tips, your simple way of writing makes my day, so I just wanted to say thank you. Happy shopping.” Thanks Carol, It’s great to know how some readers enjoy my column.

That’s it for this week. E-mail me: juliem@caxton.co.za or phone 011 724 7000. Shop till you drop.
