To breathe new life into the school, Hoërskool President High School is launching its Paint My School initiative.
This is a community-driven project aimed at revitalising and beautifying the school.
The school faces the challenge of securing the financial resources to uphold the standards set when it opens its doors. The school’s motto is ‘seek and build’.
Built in 1967 and known as Ridgeway Hoërskool, they changed the name in 1970 to Hoërskool President. In 2005, their first English learners started their schooling careers and in 2020, they had 1 739 Pressies attending the school. In 2024, the number grew to 2 361.
In 2020, the school had 51 teachers and the numbers have grown to 73 in 2024.
The principal, Quentin de Lange, stated: “We have come a long way to be known as one of the best schools in the south of Johannesburg. We are trying to keep our school buildings and the sports fields in mint condition, but need financial means to keep our premises the way it was when we first started.”
Unfortunately, because of financial restraints, the school could not revamp its classrooms and are now in a dire condition. It is a government school that only receives a small financial incentive which cannot meet all their maintenance needs.
“Paint will change our classrooms from dull to dazzling,” expressed De Lange.
“We invite members of the Pressie family, whether a current or former learner, family friend, or a President-friendly company, to contribute an amount of R5 000 towards this important project.
“Your generosity will enhance our learning environment and leave a lasting legacy, as a personalised nameplate will be placed on the classroom door you sponsor. This initiative is not just about improving our classrooms; it’s a collective effort to foster a sense of community and pride in our beloved school,” added the principal.
The school announced this project will support Cupcakes of Hope, an organisation dedicated to assisting children with cancer.
In a wonderful partnership, Hyper Paint has pledged to donate R10 for every drum of paint purchased on their website, www.hyperpaint.co.za, throughout the year.
