Heritage Day games bring community together in Kibler Park

Ward 125 hosted Heritage Day games to celebrate SA culture.

The first edition of the Heritage Day games held on September 24 at the Klipriviersberg Recreation Centre in Kibler Park was a great success and a fun way to commemorate the holiday.

Games like diketo and morabaraba were among those the attendees enjoyed.

This event featured a football tournament, a rugby knockout tournament and board games like checkers.

Organised by Clr Matsobane Sekhu of Ward 125 of the City of Johannesburg, the tournament was a success.

“Thanks to the support of businesses such as Addendorf Machinery Mart, Southgate Value Mart, Carmi Hatters, Sequence Logistics, Blue Ribbon, Pick n Pay Mulbarton, Cold-Tech Innovative Solutions, Vimtsire Protection Services, Real Premium Spices and Rand Water, all this was made possible,” said Sekhu.

“It’s essential to teach our children that sports are an integral part of SA heritage. Sport has always been a unifying force in our country, fostering a sense of patriotism and community. This event provided a valuable opportunity for families to come together and enjoy themselves as proud South Africans,” he said.

The target audience was children from the surrounding community, with the rugby tournament also including disadvantaged children from the informal settlements near Carltonville.

Alveda Pros FC, a team assembled just weeks before the event, emerged as the inaugural champions of the football tournament.
