JSPCA vehicle stolen and recovered

Hijacking a concern for SPCA and their drivers.

A JSPCA vehicle was stolen on August 22.

The driver was called out to collect a dog from a home in Mondeor. Upon arrival, he tried to assist the owner in getting the dog in the vehicle.

The owner managed to load the dog in her car as the dog refused to climb into the SPCA vehicle.

After the driver got ready to leave, three armed men approached him and forced him out of the vehicle. After threatening him they robbed him of his wallet, cellphone and vehicle. The owner of the dog was also held up and robbed.

Thankfully the Mondeor community, security companies and tracker managed to locate the vehicle. It was abandoned on the side of the road, the door open, and the keys were still in the ignition. It was not damaged in any way.

Liana Marx, PR at the JSPCA, spoke about the driver’s wellness and safety concerns for the JSPCA.

“Our main concern is always the animals and our staff. Our driver is unharmed but extremely traumatised. We immediately contacted ER24 and he will be going for a few therapy sessions to make sure he is better before he returns to work,” Liana said.

“Our guys are in the line of fire and are targets of crime and violence. Yet we continue to help every caller we can. We want to thank the Mondeor community, the security companies involved and the tracker company,” she said.
