City Power conducted a revenue collection drive on August 22 as part of its efforts to collect R32.2m in unpaid electricity bills.
The utility is targeting nine defaulting businesses and residential customers in the Reuven Service Delivery Centre supply areas.
Affected areas include Ormonde, Turffontein, and Linmeyer to name a few.
This operation is part of City Power’s ongoing efforts to improve revenue collection across low-revenue collection areas around the city and address the persistent issue of non-payment as well as illegal electricity connections.
Rakefa Makgoro, the general manager for the City Power Reuven SDC, outlined the end goal of the revenue collection drive. “The nine defaulting customers have failed to pay their bills and have not made any arrangements with the city. Therefore we are now cutting their electricity supply until they pay for services.
“This drive will be happening every week, throughout the south of Johannesburg. We will give customers a chance to pay, if they don’t we will come back to conduct a level 3 cut-off, which means we will remove their meters and electricity supply cables.”
