Help a father get a second chance to live again
Help Pieter van Niekerk’s family raise R2, 010, 679, 50 for his medical bill.
Pieter van Niekerk is fighting for his life in Midmed Hospital after suffering severe injuries in an accident.
Van Niekerk was on his way back home in Elandspark from a fishing trip with family and friends when his car got crushed by a truck on the N4 in Alzu Petroport on August 11.
“The family was coming back from a fishing trip in Dullstroom when Pieter stopped at Alzu Petroport to get cooldrinks out of the back of his bakkie.
After a few minutes, a truck lost control and crushed him into his bakkie. The truck hit other cars until it came to a standstill,” said his sister, Erika du Plooy.
Pieter was rushed to MidMed Hospital by ambulance with her sister Marianna by his side. Upon arrival, he was examined by the doctors but couldn’t receive immediate help as the family had to pay R350 000 in cash.
According to Erika du Plooy, her sister Marianna managed to get the money together.
After the doctor’s careful examination, the family was told Pieter’s left leg and pelvis were crushed by the impact which caused severe internal bleeding.
This resulted in him undergoing an operation on the same day.
Du Plooy said: “Midmed Hospital was unable to do the procedure my brother needed for his pelvis. They then called another doctor who was on leave to do the operation.”
Pieter is on life support and he urgently needs to undergo laser Lithotripsy treatments which the family can’t afford.
He doesn’t have Medical Aid, and his family needs help to save his life.
The quotation received by the family from the Netcare hospital shows that Pieter needs just over R2-m for the theatre, two laser Lithotripsy treatments, dispensary drugs, medication and to recover in the different wards.
Theatre time alone costs R335 520 for 58 minutes.
The family has created a BackaBuddy campaign to help raise funds for his brother’s medical bill.
Pieter is a father to two boys and he was the one responsible for their school fees. He worked as a subcontractor so he could provide for his children.
