SGB-Cape’s generosity overwhelms Resthaven

The relationship between SGB-Cape and Resthaven Ministries will continue.

Resthaven Ministries’ Camelia House in Main Street, Townsview, got a spruced-up makeover.

This is thanks to the company SGB-Cape based in Elandsfontein, Germiston.

This company is South Africa’s leading scaffolding company which provides access scaffolding, thermal insulation and cladding, rope access, fireproofing, asbestos removal and corrosion protection to name a few. It painted the house inside and outside, donated school shoes and jackets to the children and gave blankets and food to the elderly.

True to their company value of ‘Enabling a better tomorrow, every day’, SGB-Cape’s donation overwhelmed the ministry.

The office manager from Resthaven, Desiree Hodgson, said they were at a loss for words. “We cannot thank them enough. It is wonderful. We cannot comprehend the generosity shown to us. They are so committed to helping others. It was great to have them here; they were always smiling and willing to help,” she said.

The MD of SGB-Cape, Ben Garrad, who is responsible for businesses across South Africa and countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, said they were grateful to have helped Resthaven Ministries.

“It is satisfying to see our hard work dedicated to relevant communities. As a company, we are relevant to the community and giving back is inspiring. We have thousands of people we think deserve such projects,” he said.

Corporate social investment (CSI) champion from SGB-Cape, Santie de Beer said when Resthaven Ministries reached out to them for help, she visited them to see the premises.

“Besides the renovation of the house, 16 elderly people and 11 children were helped. We are also looking forward to helping them in future, also in their new premises that they recently acquired,” she said.

Africa coordinator Luan Sheffryk, who is also a member of the CSI committee, said they volunteered their time as workers of the company to paint the house themselves and also to make the blankets that were donated to the Resthaven Ministries residents.

Thabo Modumaela, the executive director for safety, health, environment and quality (SHEQ), said the CSI project is in the heart of SGB-Cape.

“As one of the companies that belong to Waco International, the mandate came from the board and as a division we ran with it, to lead the legacy of the company in assisting those in need. It is one initiative we are doing in the country.”
