Birch Academy celebrates 24 years of preschool excellence

The preschool prays for many years of love and educating the children.

Birch Academy, a stalwart in the Naturena community, recently celebrated its 24th birthday.

Smiley Kids Naturena, now Birch Academy, opened its doors 24 years ago in Naturena. Lorraine Martin and her sister, Gail Arthur, who played an integral role in the communities of Naturena and Meredale, started the preschool.

The sisters have always seen education as their priority and ensured their love for children is at the forefront of the business.

Lorraine Martin, the owner and principal of the academy, said they are a registered preschool and comply with all regulations.

“It is important that crèches and preschools are registered. It ensures they are governed by the law. Parents must ensure they put their children in a registered preschool as all day mothers and crèches must be registered,” she said.

“Birch Academy has been laying the groundwork that ensures its preschool children have a solid foundation for mathematics and literacy. It plays a significant role in getting the children ready for school. Their teachers also attend regular training with the Department of Education.

Martin thanks the Lord for protecting the school and its children.

“We also thank our parents for their support and love over the years. A special thank you to our teachers, some of whom have been with us for 24 years, like Priscilla Nightingale and Nikiwe Boko. Praying for many years of love and educating our children,” she said.
