Fidelity ADT warns Gauteng business owners

Crime syndicates are increasingly targeting high-value assets, such as expensive catering equipment, coffee machines, industrial blenders, and generators.

Gauteng business owners are warned to be vigilant of crime syndicates targeting high-value assets such as expensive catering equipment, coffee machines, industrial blenders, and generators.

Fidelity ADT noticed a rise in the number of attacks on mobile restaurants. They urged restaurants and mobile services sector owners to keep their high-valued assets in a safe place where criminals would not see them.

They also need to ensure that their CCTV is working, be wary of any mischievous activity, and not forget to put tracking devices on their high-value items.

Charnel Hattingh, group head of marketing and communications for Fidelity ADT, says: “We are seeing a new trend where these criminals are not just targeting traditional brick-and-mortar establishments, but also mobile restaurants. Business owners must take proactive measures to protect their assets.”

Hattingh advised business owners to at least have two workers inside the business who must always conceal distress buttons as this will help to alert the police of any hostile situation.

She also advised customers to be vigilant when visiting these outlets as they are not safe.

Hattingh adds, “We understand these are challenging times, but you should never compromise the safety of your patrons and business assets.

“We recommend that business owners consult their security providers to do a full risk assessment to ensure their protection against this type of crime. Let’s work together to keep our businesses and communities safe,” concludes Hattingh.
