Glenanda Library hosts ground-breaking ‘Life Beyond Matric’ campaign

The Life Beyond Matric campaign, held on February 27 at Glenvista High School, marked a significant milestone in empowering young minds with essential knowledge and opportunities.

Glenanda Library proudly hosted the ground-breaking Life Beyond Matric: Vuk ‘Zenzele campaign on February 27 at Glenvista High School, aimed at guiding Grade 11 and 12 learners towards their futures.

Nelly Thahane, from Glenanda Library, said the transformational event aimed to provide vital insights and opportunities for 644 learners as they navigate their paths beyond secondary education.

One speaker was Linda Thahane, from Jotela-Mtika and Associates.

“The campaign was to expose the learners to diverse educational institutions, bursaries, and learnerships. These campaigns are significant in boosting the career guidance department, addressing a crucial need as many learners might not consider various career paths because of a lack of awareness.

“Marking a historic milestone, this campaign is the first of its kind in the south, with plans to evolve into an annual tradition spanning different schools. This approach ensures that learners have direct, face-to-face interactions with representatives from tertiary institutions, offering them invaluable insights into the myriad possibilities for their future careers. The goal is to equip learners with academic knowledge and provide the tools necessary for personal and professional success.

“Beyond the exploration of academic options, the programme aims to instil essential life skills in participants,” said Thahane.

Some key focus areas include public speaking, presentation skills, time management, and leadership.

Thahane hoped the programme would serve as a catalyst for boosting self-esteem and unveiling hidden talents among the learners. Gratitude was extended to Glenvista High School for providing a platform for the event and to the participating institutions for contributing their insights and knowledge.

Dr Thabile Morgan, the principal of Glenvista High School, commended the initiative as a valuable source of information for both learners and teachers.

“There are learners still uncertain about their career paths, and the campaign not only motivates learners but also inspires their teachers.

“I advocate the continuation and expansion of such initiatives within the school,” said Morgan.

Morgan expressed appreciation to Glenanda Library and the participating institutions, firmly believing the event would significantly benefit the learners.
