Liefde en Vrede community cheers security awareness day triumph

Corner Aspen Lakes and Klipview Road witnessed a community united against crime as the Liefde en Vrede Street Captains, SAPS Mondeor, Sector One CPF, JMPD, and private security companies, along with councillor Tyrell Meyers, hosted a remarkable security awareness day.

Liefde en Vrede Street Captains, in collaboration with various security stakeholders, hosted a security awareness day on November 26, at the corner of Aspen Lakes Drive and Klipview Road.

The event aimed to familiarise residents with the security stakeholders active in the area, educate the community about crime prevention activities, safety and security during the festive season, and collect booms consent forms from the community members.

According to Sibusiso Zondi, one of the organisers, they assigned exhibition spaces to all participating stakeholders, including SAPS Mondeor, Sector One CPF, JMPD, CPS, Fox, Fidelity ADT, and councillor Tyrell Meyers’ office. These spaces allowed them to showcase their services and engage with community members.

“The community’s attendance was highly positive and remained strong throughout the event, running from 9:00 to 13:00. The majority of attendees expressed gratitude for having all security stakeholders gathered under one roof,“ said Zondi.

“There was an overwhelming sense of satisfaction and approval regarding the event. It proved to be useful, meeting most expectations and generating numerous actionable points during and after the proceedings.

“The event received effective promotion across community communication platforms. Attendees actively posed pertinent questions, ranging from seeking GBV support from SAPS to enquiries about document certification, commissioning affidavits, vetting new Liefde en Vrede Street Captains, and even exploring the possibility of a satellite SAPS Mondeor police station in Mulbarton,” added Zondi.

He said the community overwhelmingly expressed interest in attending a similar event in the future.

“The event was aligned with SAPS community outreach goals and activities. Being the first time to participate in such a community event in Liefde en Vrede, this was a great way to learn about the people’s needs, what they took away from the event and what they expected,” said Zondi.
