Triumphant graduation at The GAP College shines spotlight on exceptional learners

The GAP College's graduation day honours learners with special educational needs, showcasing their remarkable journey and highlighting the unique approach to education at this exceptional institution.

Joy and accomplishment filled the air at The GAP College as learners and parents gathered to celebrate graduation day on November 26.

The chosen date held special significance. It was held to acknowledge the remarkable achievements of children with special educational needs and to honour the women, particularly the mothers, of South Africa during the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children.

The venue was adorned in black and gold, courtesy of the college’s events coordinating team and members of the school governing body (SGB). Attendees were encouraged to dress in their finest attire, adding a touch of elegance to the celebratory atmosphere.

Dr Tracey Stewart, founder of The GAP College, kicked off the event by expressing gratitude to stakeholders and recognising those who contribute to the college’s fundraising efforts.

In the absence of the college principal, Charlene Brandt, Stewart passed the baton to the master of ceremonies, Desirae Pillay, a close friend of The GAP and a well-known inspirational speaker.

The festivities began with a plated starter prepared by The GAP hospitality team, a part of the incubation hub in the senior phase. This preceded the announcement of Chantelle Swart as the new deputy principal of the college and senior phase head of the department, Natalie Donaldson. The leadership roles for the intermediate and junior phases were assumed by Jadé Moses and Leesh Nkosi, respectively.

The management team revealed the prefects for 2024, including deputy head boy Muhle Ngwenya, deputy head girl Amahle Khumalo, head boy Farhaan Munshi, and head girl Pamela van Niekerk.

Senior phase students acknowledged by their peers for outstanding contributions were awarded the titles of Miss Luminary and Mr Luminary for 2024, given to Pamela van Niekerk and Michael Neofytos, respectively.

Every graduating student received a personalised certificate and a book prize, with options ranging from sensory books to picture books and, for the more adventurous learners, a reader. The celebration continued with a buffet meal and dessert served by the hospitality team, interspersed with the children’s singing and a lively drumming session.
