Laerskool Montanus Primary learners participate in the Eskom Expo

Congratulations are in order for the Eskom Young Scientists Finalists from Laerskool Montanus Primary

Eskom Expo for Young Scientists is a science fair where students have a chance to showcase their projects based on their scientific investigations, highlighting their exceptional talent and innovative ideas of young minds in the field of science and technology.

Selected students from 35 expo regions in South Africa compete against the best young scientists from around the country and the world at the annual Eskom Expo for Young Scientists International Science Fair (ISF).

The school entered 10 learners into the expo at the beginning of this year. They endured rigorous training and workshops.

This enhanced their skills and moulded their curious scientific minds. Seven of them progressed to the Eskom Regional Expo which was hosted at the University of Johannesburg Soweto Campus in August 2023.

Three of the Grade Six learners attained first and second positions for their projects.

Dakalo Ledimo received a bronze medal for his project on water distillation. Tshembo Lubisi received a gold medal for her project on solar-powered traffic lights’ and Peace Ogunleye won gold for her project on smart street lights.

Principal Leaquid Khan said: “Laerskool Montanus Primary congratulates all learners that participated in the fair.

We are indeed honoured to announce that two of our learners, Tshembo and Peace, will proceed to the International Science Fair to be held in October pending the shortlisting process.”
