Booysens court sentences suspect 8 years in jail for sexual assault

Ntsikelelo Nyamza (24) received eight years imprisonment for sexual assault.

This sentence was handed down at Booysens Magistrate’s Court on July 10.

He was sentenced in terms of the provisions of Section 51 (3) of the Criminal Law Amendment Act 105 of 1997, where a high court or regional court has the discretionary power to impose a lesser sentence if that court is satisfied that substantial and compelling circumstances exist which justify the imposition of a lesser sentence than the prescribed minimum sentence.

The incident happened on March 22, 2018, in Turffontein. He committed an act of sexual penetration with a 32-year-old female person without her consent.
