Court sentences two accused to 10 years each

Both accused pleaded not guilty when the trial began in June.

Magistrate Habib sentenced Zimbabwean Jonathan Dube (30) and Tebogo Bopape (40) to 10 years each for house break-in with the intent to steal and theft.

The Booysens Magistrate’s Court handed down the sentences on July 3.

On November 6, 2022, the pair broke open and entered premises in Booysens and stole, among other things, alcohol valued at R350 000, two laptops, a generator and a camera.

As per Act 103/60/2000, the court deemed Dube and Bopape unfit to possess a firearm. Dube will be deported to Zimbabwe after serving his sentence.
