The police opened a case of murder and now seek the suspect after the half-naked body of a woman was found in an open field in South Hill, Johannesburg, on November 15.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said the police received a call about a woman lying in an open field and rushed to the scene.

“On arrival, the police found the half-naked body of a female lying on the ground covered with a blue blanket. The deceased has not yet been identified, and the motive for the killing is unknown.

“We appeal to anyone who might have information that can help the investigation or assist in the apprehension of the suspects to call their nearest police station or Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” said Masondo.

A South End Monitoring and Response team member, Willie Steyn, responded quickly to a panic button alert and arrived at the field between Brits Street and Swinburne Road. He immediately called the police and the ambulance after discovering the lifeless body of a woman.

Steyn emphasised that such incidents, rare in their close-knit community, heighten residents’ sense of shock and concern.
