Trial for Forest Hill murder case postponed to September 15

The magistrate was furious about the delays in this murder case.

Magistrate Habib postponed the Forest Hill murder case to September 15 for new trial dates.

This was heard at Booysens Magistrate’s Court on September 7 after the defence’s attorney, Ms Munyai, couldn’t be in court.

The murder trial for accused Kleave van Staden was set for September 6 and 7.

On September 6, two minors testified, followed by the testimony of a paramedic. The court then adjourned for September 7, when three police officers were supposed to take the witness box.

On September 7, Munyai was nowhere to be found. The case was called in the morning but had to stand down to locate her. When the case was called again later, she was still not in court, and they couldn’t reach her on her cellphone.

Magistrate Habib had to postpone the case. “Unfortunately, this is what the legal system has been reduced to. The case will be postponed to September 15 for the accused’s attorney to arrange a new date,” she said.

Van Staden is accused of murdering his wife, Jamillah, on January 8 last year in Forest Hill.
