Ward 57 Clr Faeeza Chame’s new year greetings

In the new year, the councillor of Ward 57 emphasizes on "be the change you want to see" as a message of encouragement to the community.

Clr Faeeza Chame writes:

As we say farewell to 2023 we welcome not only a new year but an important year as well. With any transition or change in time, many of us take time to reflect on the previous year.

Hopefully, that reflection leads us to strive to do better than the year before. We ought to use our experience; both good and faulty as tools to venture towards success in whatever it is that we want to be or do.

The countdown is upon us regardless of whether you stand in support of our current administration. I hope that as a community, we continue to preserve our neighbourly ways and respect for one another in the new year.

Despite some setbacks with a lack of service delivery, Ward 57 experienced many successes in 2023. We’re seeing the community grow with the in-fill of our businesses and the build-out of subdivisions within the ward.

Property owners continue to make improvements to existing establishments, bringing new opportunities in the coming year.

In the new year, I desire to see government invest more money in our infrastructure. Improving recreation facilities and upgrading equipment needed for the services we provide, more allocations of houses must be prioritised to alleviate homelessness.

The government must invest in education, we cannot afford to have “glass half empty” thinkers in our society, we need educated people to follow in our footsteps to build our country to be one of the best in moving in a positive direction that future generations will appreciate.

We need to improve on our additional law enforcement personnel, strive for even greater transparency and get rid of corruption in our government. Health facilities need a major upliftment and improvement.

I thank all our service providers such as the Southern Courier, JRA, City Power, Joburg Water, City Parks, JMPD, SAPS, security companies and patrollers for their dedication and hard work under difficult circumstances.

As we move forward, you will see exciting initiatives that benefit our residents, businesses, stakeholders and partners in making Ward 57 safer, smarter, healthier and unified.
