The official was in his car at the Chris Hani Road and Golden Highway intersection when he came under attack.

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) expresses profound concern in the wake of an unfortunate event that occurred on November 23.

Gauteng Department of Education’s Spokesperson, Steve Mabona said during the incident, a Johannesburg South District official was shot while inside his vehicle.

“According to the information available to us, the male official, responsible for overseeing Learning and Teaching Support Material (LTSM) in our Johannesburg South District, was in his vehicle at the intersection of Chris Hani Road and Golden Highway near Southgate Mall in Johannesburg. He was unexpectedly shot by an unidentified assailant,” he said.

Mabona said immediate medical assistance was provided, and they are relieved to report that the official is presently in stable condition, receiving medical care at a local facility.

“We extend our heartfelt wishes for the swift recovery of our colleague and want to assure the family that we will offer the necessary support during this challenging period,” said Mabona.

Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane stated, “While the motive remains unknown, it is disconcerting that an official could be targeted and subjected to such an attack. We urge law enforcement agencies to apprehend the perpetrators. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to share it with the police. We wish our employee a speedy recovery.”
