The organisers said despite the event’s sparkle and glamour, the Mr and Miss Alberton programme is not to be misconstrued with another pageant because it aims to empower young minds and make them realise the sky is not the limit.

The focus is on making a positive impact on the community. Participants in the programme were required to engage in empowerment-focused activities, such as community service and entrepreneurship.

One judge and the pageant mentor, Brendan Nel, said he was looking for a strong, self-assured candidate to win the title, as confidence can take one far.

Ayanda and Karabo Maepane founded Mr and Miss Alberton, a youth organisation, to empower young people by assisting them in becoming the best versions of themselves and realising their full potential and self-assurance. The organisation provides a platform for young boys and girls between seven and 27 to help them overcome their concerns and gain confidence and leadership abilities.

Karabo said that it was not easy organising the event, as it needed to voice out the vision behind it and be what the contestants expected.
