Alberton Madalas Golden Oldies Rugby Team hosts all of Gauteng’s Oldies Rugby Clubs, including two teams travelling from as far as Welkom & Bethlehem.

The festival will take place this Saturday, July 29 at the Alberton Rugby Club.

Kick-off time for the first two teams to battle it out on the field is at 9:00.

This will be a much anticipated ‘Old Fashioned’ game as it will be the well-respected Over 50’s from Welkom – Bundu’s 50s and Gauteng Old Boys taking the field.

Guaranteed to always open the day with loads of charisma, fun & grey beards!

The second game of the day will be a hard one between Western Lions and our Neighbours from the South – the Hillbillies.

Followed by Golden Eagles vs Mustangs, Grizzlies vs the younger lads from Welkom – Bundu Bashers, TWR vs Bethlehem Ou Are, another Alberton Home Team Mongrels vs Krugersdorp Quins – and then last but not least – the Alberton Madalas finishing off this eventful day vs Tendellas.

There will be a 10’s game on the B-Field at 11:25 featuring the Gauteng Barbarians who will also take on Alberton Madalas, and if you stick around a little bit longer – you will witness the very first ever Alberton Oldies Ladies Team – who call themselves the Alberton Madeliefies, playing on Alberton’s fields for the very first time – ever!

Join Alberton Madalas from as early as 9:00. There will be food stalls, a beer tent, kids’ entertainment, and live entertainment.

Jurgens Wessels – Treasurer, Etienne Barnard – Team Manager, Desireé van Wyk – Secretary, Cornelius van Wyk – Chairman, Jack Wagner(Dozi) – Senior Advisor, Buks Koekemoer – Vice Chairman.

You might also be able to sneak in a picture with the very famous “Vaatjie” who will be MC to our long-awaited Oldies Day!

And yes, of course, there will be a big screen for the Bokke vs Argentina Game which kicks off at 17:00!!

Alberton Madalas aim to attract approximately 1500 spectators.

“Jol Ball” is the message that the Alberton Madalas’ Chairman – Cornelius van Wyk (better known as Corra) wants to give to all the Teams participating.

“We play the game we so dearly love with Fun, Friendship and Fraternity.  This is the place where players relive their youth from the age of 35 years and older.  The team has grown tremendously in the last two years,” said Cornelius.

Cornelius said they currently have 56 registered players, and still growing.

“This is where players become Brothers.  We pride ourselves on our family-orientated values, where wives and kids form part of our Team.  It has been a privilege, together with the support of my Management Team, players and families  –  to grow this team to where we are today.  I couldn’t be any prouder,” added Cornelius.

Please join the Alberton Madalas for an eventful day. For any queries, contact Desireé on 072 482 2844.
