Meyersdal ballet dancer enters an international ballet competition

Meyersdal’s Alexia Munn and Sydenham’s Michael Constantinides are entering a pas de deux into the SA International Ballet Competition.

Meyersdal’s Alexia Munn has entered the 10th South African International Ballet Competition (SAIBC) to be held at the Artscape Opera House in Cape Town from July 23 to 26.

Alexia will also be entering a pas de deux (a duet in which two dancers, typically a male and a female, perform ballet steps together) into the SA International Ballet Competition together with Michael Constantinides.

Organisers are delighted to announce 60 in-person entries with several international participants joining their South African counterparts, including competitors from South Korea and Germany.

The highly anticipated gala finale that will bring the three-day SAIBC to a spectacular close will showcase performances by the medalists and top scorers while guest artists from Cuba, Portugal and Mzansi Ballet in Johannesburg will wow audiences with thrilling divertissements and pas de deux from Swan Lake Act III and Esmeralda.

The SAIBC, founded by Dirk Badenhorst in 2008 as a biennial competition, has been presented annually since 2021 when the pandemic created the opportunity for the event to go digital.

“Today the hybrid SAIBC is recognised as the foremost classical ballet competition on the African continent that consistently attracts dancers of the highest calibre from South Africa and across the globe. Tickets cost from R135 through Computickt or 0214217695,” explained publicist Allison Foat.
