Darts player showcases great skill, earns provincial colours

Florentia’s Nakita De Lange, Ekurhuleni South Darts Association junior darts player, is overjoyed after being selected to represent Gauteng at the Darts South Africa Nationals.

Nakita De Lange (16) represented the Ekurhuleni South Darts Association (ESDA) ‘Blue Machine Family’ well over the past two weekends.

She attended the Gauteng Trials and was recently selected as part of the Gauteng Juniors Team who will be representing Gauteng at the Darts South Africa Nationals being held in July at the Wild Coast Sun.

Delian Bennett, secretary and business unit manager of ESDA, said this is a huge accomplishment for Nakita as she has only been playing darts for a short while and has now earned her provincial colours.

She only joined the sport in March 2022 and has been doing exceptionally – harnessing her skills ever since.

“I played the game Killer with my mom and I started to develop a passion for darts. Then when a friend of mine from school asked if I wanted to join ESDA, I said yes, because it would be good for me to get out of the house and step out of my comfort zone,” said Nakita.

Nakita said her journey with the club was and still is very good, as everyone feels like family to her.

“You don’t have to be scared to ask for help or anything as they are always there for you. Young people interested to join should just join because everyone was a beginner at some point of their life and they started in the same place you are starting now. There is no room for judgement, only room for helping and improving your game,” she explained.

She said it is a massive honour to have been chosen to represent the province at the Darts South Africa National Championship.

Bennett reiterated that this is a huge deal for the club, as they have not had a junior in the Gauteng Team for a while now.
