She firmly believes she has so much to offer learners in making a big difference in their lives and contributing towards the future of the school in any way possible.

Sunette is currently the SA, African and Commonwealth Record holder in the women’s javelin throw with a distance of 69.35m.

“I’m also a four-time Olympian, winning silver at the Olympics in Rio being my best performance. I’m also a five-time African Champion, four-time Commonwealth Games medalist, two times World Championship medalist and two times World Student Games,” she said.

She is also 14 times national champion and played 17 ODI’s for South Africa and is currently playing for the Titans Ladies team. Her goal is to play in the T20 World Cup next year.

Educational background

Sunette matriculated at Rustenburg High School and received an offer of an athletics bursary at the North-West University (NWU).

She graduated with degrees in B.Com Sports and Recreation Management, BEd Honours and Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).

Having joined the school, she told the Alberton Record she is looking forward to contributing positively towards the future of learners at the school.

“Everyone welcomed me with open arms and I already feel part of this wonderful family. Jannie Oliver gave me this wonderful opportunity which I will be forever grateful for. Children are my passion and I am a kid magnet. I love to work with children and my passion and personality come out working with children. I’m a qualified teacher and I knew one day I will be able to fall back on my qualifications,” she explained.

As she pursues her passion, she will be teaching tourism, hospitality and life orientation.

Where-to-now

Sunette plays for the Titans Ladies Cricket Team and has set big goals for herself and is giving her absolute best to make them come true.

She recently got selected to play in the Women’s Super League in December and is looking forward to it.

“I’m dedicated and passionate in both worlds, but I know God has a purpose for my life and everything will work out the way He has planned for me. Whatever happens, I know I will have the support of my principal and the family of Alberton High School. I love working at the school,” Sunette said.

Sunette was also chosen by Cricket South Africa to be the ambassador for the U19 girls’ Cricket World Cup to be held in January 2023 in the country.

“To end the year with love in my heart, I’m organising an Athletics Day for the orphanage children of Siyabonga. I can’t wait to see their faces and hope that the day will bring lots of pleasure to their hearts,” she said.
