Plani, Fleishman, Laidler Rehabilitation successfully opens physiotherapy

After almost four months of helping patients, Plani, Fleishman, Laidler Rehabilitation successfully hosted its open day.

Plani, Fleishman, Laidler Rehabilitation, based at MediMix at Newmarket, hosted an open day on September 21.

MediMix @ NewMarket officially opened its doors on May 25 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

In a brand-new, cutting-edge setting, Plani, Fleishman, Laidler Rehabilitation provides rehabilitation for long-term patients that are in the Netcare Alberton Hospital, as well as these services for outpatients:

• Long-term Covid rehabilitation

• Cardiac rehabilitation

• Post Intensive Care Unit (ICU) follow-up clinic and rehabilitation

• Adult neurological rehabilitation

• Vocational rehabilitation.

Founder and physiotherapist, Natascha Plani, said that providing meaningful and effective rehabilitation to inpatients has been her dream for years. However, the space at the old Netcare Union Hospital was not sufficient to do this.

“If one doesn’t dream it means they accept everything the way it is. But if they dream it allows their mind to develop new ideas and work on them, to make them a reality and make the environment a better space for everyone filled with opportunities,” said Natascha.

It is almost four months since the rehabilitation centre opened its doors to the community. It has managed to help at least 139 patients by developing personalised programmes for each individual, based on clinical evidence and programmes that have been thoroughly tested and examined.

The rehabilitation centre aims to maximise a patient’s physical, psychological and social functioning through exercise and rehabilitation, and by introducing healthy lifestyle behaviours that may reduce the likelihood of developing new disorders and events. This will enable patients to confidently lead fulfilling lives.

According to co-founder, Caren Fleishman, the practice will be a great asset to the Alberton community and provide a more holistic service to their patients.

“The patients have the use of a beautiful open space with sophisticated equipment to work out, which will help them regain their strength, function, and confidence and improve their quality of life. The most important tools we can give our patients is an individualised exercise programme, education and reassurance so that we can work together with them to achieve the best results,” said Caren.

The space does not only provide patients with a great environment but also allows opportunities for the physiotherapists to apply their knowledge and skills and allows for their individual growth as well.

“It has been the team’s dream to have a facility to give patients the treatment we would like, in a setting spacious enough to allow for that. It took many months of planning and patience, especially during the difficulties we faced during the Covid-19 days. We are here because of patience and a desire to provide excellent patient care,” said Francesca Bharath of Plani, Fleishman, Laidler Rehabilitation.

The rehabilitation centre is contracted to medical aid schemes and cash clients.
