Peculiar discovery for South Hills man

He wishes to help children who are interested in astronomy.

Wesley Geyser from South Hills believes he has a meteorite fragment after he found what looks like a rock-metal object on Outspan Road on September 20.

He said several people in his neighbourhood captured the meteor shower recently.

The Southern Courier visited him at his home to find out more about his discovery. He mentioned that this was fascinating as he is a person who is interested in precious rocks, as this is not the first rock in his collection.

“I was walking on the road when my eyes landed on this rock. You can see with its distinctive dark metallic colour that this is not an ordinary rock. It measured about 6cm by 4cm and weighs almost 0,23kg. And it attracts a magnet, which means it has a lot of metal in it. This might be caused by a fusion of tectonic plates. It is also heavier than the normal rock of its size,” explained Wesley.

When asked what he is planning to do with it, he said he will hold on to it or probably auction it.

“There are a lot of children who are interested in astronomy, maybe the proceeds of this fragment of a meteorite can help fund their dreams. I am willing to do that for them,” he said.
