Jordao College learners learn a lot from a tour at Lebone Litho Printers

The girls feel honoured to visit Lebone Litho Printers as they discovered new things about the company.

In keeping up with Cell C’s Take A Girl Child to Work Day initiative, Lebone Litho Printers invited the learners of Jordao College in Turffontein to attend the launch of the Jet Press 750s high-speed model, the first installation in Africa.

Not only did the girls witness this ground-breaking event on August 18, but they also got the opportunity to have a two-hour tour by the Lebone CEO, Keith Michael.

“Generally, females show more attention to detail than males. This industry must put women at the forefront of technological advances in Africa. We are very pleased to have the girls here and to expose them to the day-to-day running of the printing industry.”

The tour included showing the girls the process of bulk printing, what it entails and the different machinery the company uses. The group was taken through most of the departments at Lebone, such as the graphics department, the security department, early childhood development and many more.

The purpose was to encourage, motivate and inspire the girl child to consider this male-dominated industry.
This also served as career guidance for the girls. Food and beverages were also offered to the girls.

“I have learnt about machines and their functions. More importantly, the things they print like birth certificates and others. It was very nice,” said Altita Mnyhila, a Grade 10 learner at Jordao College.

“I learnt quite a bit. I was more interested in graphic design. I was also impressed that I can do an internship at the Lebone. They also provide bursaries which is beneficial,” said Palesa Mamba, a Grade 11 learner at Jordao College.
