Motor spares business declared as posing danger

Not only is this Alberton North business said to be a safety hazard for pedestrians, businesses are concerned of it being a fire hazard.

Having been in Alberton North for about two months, TS Motor Spares already has nearby businesses concerned that it poses real threats.

The business has been denounced by some in the community as a fire, health and safety hazard.

It sells car parts and spares, however, due to limited storage it resorted to placing some of its parts on the roof.

According to Willie Basson, the building in which the business is situated is about 70 years old and the chances of it collapsing are high.

“This place is a fire hazard as the whole place could easily burn. There are no fire extinguishers and the plastic parts are full of oil. If these parts fall on someone walking past, what is going to happen to them?” he said.

Business owner Voy Spohr said: “They have made a rubbish dump off spare parts on top of the roof. This is a fire and a safety hazard.”

Owner of TS Motor Spares, Kassimu Duma said: “I’m moving these parts back inside, I had moved them because we were busy with shelves. We are cooperating with our neighbours and this is so that our neighbours don’t complain.”
