Suspect arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm

The station commander applauded the police for the arrest.

Police apprehended a 41-year-old for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, on the corner of Commissioner and End streets in the CBD, on June 21.

The acting communication officer at Johannesburg Central Station, Constable Constance Lelimo, said police were busy with their routine crime prevention duties of stop and search when they approach the suspect.

They searched his bag and recovered an unlicensed firearm with the serial number filed off and ammunition.

“The firearm will be sent to ballistic testing to ascertain if it was used in the commission of other serious and violent crimes.

“Investigations are underway and the suspect appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate Court,” she said.

Johannesburg Central Station Commander Brigadier Perumal commended the good work done by the member in removing a dangerous weapon from the streets. He urged the police to enhance the stop and search around Johannesburg CBD.
