Frances Vorwerg School in Joburg South has been running a feeding scheme for 30 families, where 30 children receive a meal every day at the school.

The school also hands out food parcels to 30 families every Friday.

They have been doing the project with the NG church Forest Hill, which gives a meal once per week with the rest of the scheme being dependent on donations.

“Our pantry is empty with the last items already handed out to the public. We received a donation of three trolleys filled with non-perishables from Covenant College High School, which gave us a bit of breathing space. Without the help from the community, the NG church in Forest Hill and Covenant College, we wouldn’t have been able to assist families in need,” said Susan Viljoen, deputy principal at Frances Vorwerg School.

“Frances Vorwerg School in Rifle Range Road in Haddon has been providing specialised education and care to learners with cerebral palsy and other learning and physical difficulties for over 50 years. Despite having physical and/or other barriers to learning, many of our learners also come from impoverished areas.

The school, therefore, provides a daily cooked meal for 30 learners with the help of individual sponsors and other members of the community. We also send home a food parcel to the families of these learners over weekends.

We are grateful that the NG Church in Forest Hill has reached out to us and is currently providing one meal a week.”

The school was overwhelmed by the generosity of both Covenant College and NG Church Forrest Hill especially as their food parcel stock was nearly depleted.

Frances Vorwerg School is especially grateful to every individual and organisation who is making a continuous contribution to assist us in sustaining our feeding scheme project.

If you want to donate to the scheme, the school welcomes any donation of dry- and/or non-perishable foods and basic toiletries.

The school can be contacted on 011 683 3390 for more information.
