Marist Brothers Linmeyer High School bids its principal farewell

For the last 24 years, Gary Norton has called Marist Brother Linmeyer his home and had high points, as well as low points.

Gary Norton, who has been the principal of Marist Brothers Linmeyer High School for the last 24 years is retiring at the end of the school year.

The CHRONICLE caught up with Gary to find out about his career as well as his plans for the future.

Gary has during his career as a teacher taught numerous subjects like isiZulu, science, biology, mathematics and life orientation.

For the last 24 years, he has called Marist Brothers Linmeyer his home and has had many memorable experiences – some sad and many happy.

Gary said, “During my time at this school a definite high has been the staff members who I had the privilege of working with. They have a special place in my heart and have become like family to me. Sadly, during my time here, we have lost staff members and learners due to tragic circumstances.

“I’m always happy to see past learners in our community and hear the progress they have made in life after school.”

With retirement around the corner, Gary said he will aim to have fun, focus on his hobbies and perhaps assist in mentorship programmes for young principals and educators.

He said that he had been blessed to have worked at such a wonderfully caring institution and that it was a privilege to work with a committed team and wonderful young people.
