Betway to support Rowing SA

Rowing South Africa (Rowing SA) is well supported by Betway to develop community sport.

The leading online betting and gaming brand has partnered with Rowing SA and is working closely with Awaneo Management and Consulting to revamp the Roodeplaat Dam jetties, which have needed repair and upgrade for the past few years.

Betway’s funding into Awaneo Management has empowered the enterprise development partner to invest in the refurbishment.

This refurbishment comes after the successful conclusion of the #BetwayCares Skills Hub, which was rolled out as part of Betway’s broader approach to community sports development.

“We would like to thank Betway for partnering with us and allowing us to engage in various sporting codes, including Rowing SA, to make meaningful investments towards the betterment of their resource, infrastructure and sporting programme requirements,” said Awaneo Management and Consulting’s Matt Fendick.

The new jetties at the Roodeplaat Dam will help bring the rowing facility at the dam up to international standards ahead of the World Rowing Masters Regatta, which will take place in 2023. This event is expected to have a long-lasting economic impact on the city of Tshwane and help grow the sport of rowing.

Speaking ahead of the official unveiling of the new jetties, Betway SA marketing manager David Rachidi said, “Rowing, just like any other sport that we have supported in the last few years, plays an important role in our society. As a brand that has continuously demonstrated its commitment to the development of sports, we take pride in such initiatives that we believe will yield incredible tangible results for rowing.

“What is also exciting about this partnership is that the newly revamped jetties benefit the rowing community who use the facility daily, as well as the community at large who will benefit from the many regattas that can now be held at the venue.”

Thanking Betway for its invaluable contribution to the sport, Rowing SA president Sean Kerr said, “Roodeplaat is the home of South African rowing and having been able to improve the infrastructure with Betway’s support is a huge boost to our ability to host events, the day-to-day rowing activities for our communities and the sustainability of our sport.

“A lot of energy has gone into the environmentally friendly design and build. The jetties are also a key component of the rowing venue for the 2023 World Rowing Masters Regatta and move us one step closer to being able to put on a world-class event.”

The official unveiling ceremony will take place on November 24 at the Roodeplaat Dam.
