Premature baby born at Sasol garage in Mondeor

The team was so delighted with the outcome they gave the little boy the nickname, Amagluglug because he is a SASOL baby.

“What a beautiful experience this was. The little baby boy was so tiny.”

A 35-week premature baby was born on the evening of November 2 in the forecourt of Sasol Swartgoud garage in Columbine Avenue, Mondeor.

The owner of the garage, Letitia Visser, was alerted to a commotion going on in the forecourt where she found the mother giving birth.

Visser said, “I was sitting in my office when I heard a lot of noise coming from my staff. The garage was full because it was the night before the fuel price was set to increase.

“I heard screaming and I even thought we are being robbed or something like that. I quickly went out to the forecourt and encountered a woman who said her daughter was going into labour and she is about to have a baby.”

Visser immediately phoned Michelle Pelser, the Fidelity ADT south branch manager, to request assistance.

“I must tell you I can’t do anything without Michelle, she really makes you feel calm and relaxed whenever there is a crisis. When Michelle is near, there is no fear,” said Visser.

Pelser was around the corner when the call came through and also dispatched a paramedic to help with the birth.
Visser also thanked Fidelity ADT security officer Ziyaad Wadvalla for his response.

Visser said, “When he saw me running around on the floor trying to get a blanket or for the mother, he immediately started phoning around and sending messages on the WhatsApp group. He wanted to see if there was anyone with medical experience that was close by that could help while we waited for the ambulance to arrive.”

When the ambulance arrived the mother and the baby was transported to the South Rand Hospital and are both doing well.

The team was so delighted with the outcome they gave the little boy the nickname Amagluglug because he is a Sasol baby.

Pelser said “What a beautiful experience this was. The little baby boy was so tiny. I am so happy that our team was able to assist.

“Our Fidelity ADT reaction officers and secure drive team all played their part in ensuring that the site was secure so that the medical team could do what they need to do to make sure mum and baby were safe.”
