A birthday bash for Roney

McDonald's is willing to give 10% of all sales made for four hours on October 2 to the family.

The story of the parents looking for help for their almost two-year-old daughter touched many hearts.

It is Rodney and Cindy Stephens’ biggest wish to get their daughter, Roney, who was born with club feet, the help needed so she can walk.

One of the hearts Roney touched was that of Thabile Chomie Dube, a marketing manager from Alberton McDonald’s next to Netcare Union Hospital.

Thadile contacted the RECORD to make arrangements for a fund-raiser for Roney.

Roney will be turning two on October 1 and a party will be hosted on October 2 at McDonald’s.

Ten percent of all the sales McDonald’s make on October 2 from 12:00 to 16:00 will go towards Roney.

And it does not stop there, there will also be two boxes at the restaurant: one where people can bring birthday gifts for Roney and another box which will be available at the till where people can make financial donations.

“It is important for people to know they must come into the store to a specific till, the one where there will be a photo of Roney on to support this fund-raiser. The sales made from the drive-through on that day won’t count as part of the fund-raiser,” said Thabile.

“What better way to celebrate this angel’s birthday. It will be called a McCommunity Project in aid of Roney.”
Cindy said she can’t believe what is happening and there is no words to say thank you.

“With the funds raised we are planning to take Roney to a private orthopaedist so we can exactly know what is going for what and what is needed,” said Cindy.

McDonald’s is not just a fast-food restaurant that provides a service, but one that gives back to the community.

“I was really touched by her story and immediately felt the need to help. I know this baby girl will walk and live a normal life,” said Thabile.

Roney and her family will also be in store on October 2 if people would like to meet her.

“We need the help of the community to help this baby,” said Thabile.
