WATCH: Diversity SGB protests against alleged corruption

SGB protests against alleged corruption at Diversity High School.

School Governing Body (SGB) treasurer Zamile Dlamini and SGB members marched to Diversity High School, South Hills, on September 10 to demand the principal resigns.

They raised concerns about Hosea Maboya, who has been the school principal for 14 years, alleging corruption at the school.

“We are protesting against a corrupt principal who is looting from the school. Ever since he moved to Diversity High School, results have been dropping dramatically. There is proof that dagga is being sold at the school and nothing has been done about this,” he said.

Dlamini also alleged school grounds are being hired by foreigners to play their weekend sports while there are no sporting activities for the learners at the school.

“Bullying in the school is also a huge factor and it is ignored. We want the principal and his management out of the school. We demand change,” said Dlamini.

The Department of Basic Education came to the school during the protest to receive a memorandum from the SGB.

“We are happy that the department came in to hear our cries and we believe change will be brought to this school. We were promised they will issue a statement by September 15 to see a way forward. We hope Maboya will be fired from this school for our children to get a better education,” he said.

The COURIER tried to speak with the principal during the protest but he was not willing to speak to either the media or to address the SGB.
