RYC tracking app launched ahead of Joburg 10K CITYRUN Virtual Edition

The RYC tracking app is guaranteed to add to the excitement of this much-anticipated Heritage Day celebration.

The organisers of the Run Your City (RYC) Series are excited to launch the 2021 RYC tracking app that is guaranteed to add to the experience of the Joburg 10K CITYRUN Virtual Edition on National Heritage Day on September 24.

Forming part of SA’s premier road-running series, the RYC Series, which includes the iconic Joburg 10K CITYRUN, Durban 10K CITYRUN and Cape Town 12K CITYRUN, the Joburg 10K CITYRUN Virtual Edition invites runners from all over South Africa to unite virtually in the spirit of camaraderie, pride and celebration.

“The RYC tracking app is guaranteed to add to the excitement of this much-anticipated Heritage Day celebration,” said Michael Meyer, managing director of Stillwater Sports and founder of the RYC Series.

“To add to the race day feeling, we’ve called on the assistance of a few of the RYC Series’ well-known commentators. Although you won’t be able to see them, you are guaranteed to recognise their voices as they welcome you to the start line, via the app of course.

“The app will also shout out kilometre markings, so runners will know where they are on route and how far they still need to go to complete the 10km distance, allowing them to control their pace accordingly.”

One last sprint

“The most exciting section on the route is guaranteed to be the Puma Beat Bolt Sprint section, which will be the last 100m of the race,” continued Meyer.

“Runners will be notified once they’ve entered the final kilometre of the race, as well as when they are nearing the start of the last 100m. On entering the start of the last 100m, runners will be prompted to run as fast as they can to #BeatBolt.

“The male and female runner with the fastest time will each take home a R10 000 Puma retail shopping experience. There are also additional prizes for runners who complete the sprint in under 15, 20 and 25 seconds. Are you ready to #BeatBolt?

“The RYC tracking app is also a fantastic information tool that will be used to communicate event-related information before, during and after the Joburg virtual edition. Once the 10km run has been completed, runners will be able to see their progress on their actual route as well as their ‘virtual position’ on the event route.

“All finishers will also receive a digital finisher’s medal and a certificate, which can be shared directly to social media. We can’t wait to celebrate National Heritage Day with thousands of runners from across South Africa,” Meyer concluded.

The RYC tracking app will be available for download from the Google Play and App Store from September 10.
