Future leaders lead by example

Long established institution, Johannesburg Junior Council (JJC), is run by the youth of Johannesburg who are on a mission of making a difference.

The Johannesburg Junior Council (JJC) is a reflection of the commitment of the youth who are prepared to put out their time and effort to create a better environment.

Consisting of more than 70 youngsters, the JJC was established in Johannesburg in 1928 to develop future leaders.

It is an NPO of young, inspired leaders in Grade 11 from different schools around Johannesburg.

Londani Ngubo, of Johannesburg Junior Council, said they try to help the community in different spheres.

“This is like local government and we’re in different committees which include Youth Awareness, Welfare, Sports and Recreation, Arts and Culture, Advocacy, Ecology and Contact. We all try to do what local municipality does, which is help the community and bring about awareness,” she said.

Ngubo also said part of their objective is to develop an interest in civic and community affairs and represent the youth accurately and fairly.

Their respective roles comprise focusing on the environment, bringing about arts and culture awareness, giving back to those in need.

They recently joined hands with Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve Association in conducting a clean-up at Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve.
